Life is never truly still. Even in the quiet, there is movement; subtle shifts in light, the unfurling of a petal, the change of seasons. My latest body of work, A Life Less Still, is a reflection of that energy. These paintings, though rooted in still life, pulse with a liveliness that mirrors my own evolving world.
Motherhood has reshaped my days in ways I never could have imagined. Two and a half years ago, I welcomed my first child; now, with a four-month-old as well, life is a constant dance of early mornings and late evenings, of stolen moments in the studio between feeds and nap-times. The notion of stillness has taken on a new meaning; not as something to be sought, but as something fleeting, momentary, woven into the whirlwind of everyday life.
The weight and wonder of parenting is an emotional joy ride, and like so many, I have felt the profound shift in identity that comes with raising small children. There is no pause, no long stretches of silence to sit and reflect; only movement, love, and the art that emerges in between.
This exhibition exists in that space, where art and life intertwine, where flowers in a vase are never truly still, where the rustling hedgerows echo the rhythm of a life in motion.
