Biography
Through colour, constant editing and paring back I aim to express my feelings about the land either as a comment on current agricultural practises - monoculture, huge denuded fields and fluorescent colours - this, by definition has a political dimension. Also paradoxically to convey and celebrate the beauty I find and colour’s ability to elicit an inner and emotional response in the viewer.
Colour is used in a way that is non-literal. Placing colours one against the other is intended to evoke a parallel to the atmosphere of the subject however different that colour is from reality. Also by radical simplification of shape and composition I hope to stimulate a direct reaction in the audience.
The work is intended to be a document as well as an expression.

I use oil paint for its rich colours and ability to be applied thick and thin, scrubbed off, dripped, smeared etc.. For printmaking I use Carborundum grit for its ability to produce deep rich, velvety coloured prints.
