Biography

'“I have been painting in oils for 40 years at first specialising in commissioned portraits. I am self taught. I do less commissions now and have progressed to doing mainly figurative  work which I try to imbue with a dreamlike sense of ambiguity and surrealism. I try to give as equal weight to the figure as to the textures and natural images and somehow mesh them together. I use anything that will make a vivid and tactile texture with old brushes, stencils, corrugated cardboard even old fishing nets and sea sponge! 

I am an artist living in London where I work every day in a studio in Kensal rise. I can’t remember a time when I haven’t been drawing painting or creating.  When my sister had her first child I did a small portrait of my niece which was seen by friends and from there my career as a portrait artist took off. I loved portrait painting especially the reaction of the recipients when the work was complete. However after many years I began to feel that I was missing the chance to be creative, to do my own exploration and branch out in a different direction. I am now a mainly figurative artist with also a smattering of floral works and landscapes recently I have been experimenting with merging figures with textured floral backgrounds creating an almost surreal dreamlike experience.”
